Al-Rajhi Steel Plant Achieves the First Million Ton of Billets

 

 Al-Rajhi Steel plant in Jeddah achieved the first million ton of billets on 31st December 2008.  According to Eng. Saeed Abdullah, executive production director in Jeddah,  despite overwhelming difficulties facing the steel industry at present.Workers of the mill vowed on 21/12,2008 to turn out the mill’s first one -million ton of billets before the end of 2008.     In their endeavor the workers were supported by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Rajhi, chairman of the board of directors of the Al-Rajhi Company, and by the management of Jeddah plant . The one –million ton of billets  included all steel products turned out by the mill since it began operation in June last year.

 

                    

   

He said this comparatively  large steel product would go a long way towards meeting the demand of the local market. The boosted output would also  meet the need of local manufacturing industries  which are  engaged  in the production of construction steel while  at the same time  positively reflecting on the national economy. God willing, the workers of the mill have also promised  to produce more steel next year, he added.    Jeddah steel plant is considered as one of the leading enterprises of  Al-Rajhi Company. This steel plant can turn out 850,000 tons  of billets annually measuring between  100 and 160 mm which can be about  16 meters long. Most of the produced billets will feed the three rolling mills in Riyadh & Jeddah where the rest will meet the need of various local demand.     Work on the SR 1.2- billion steel plant began  in June  2005 following extensive studies by experts in the field  and was completed  in December of the following year. The main aim of the  mill was  to turn out steel products to meet demand by local manufacturing and building industries .
