The Arab Steel Summit 2009, which will be organized by the Arab Iron and Steel Union in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in the period 12 – 14 April 2009, will be held under circumstances in which the Arab and world steel industry witnesses dramatic transformations changing the view to the future of the steel industry. It is expected that the demand will see a strong decline and slowdown in the growth rates, which may negatively affect many future expansion projects.
However, there are still several markets in the world including the Middle East markets and North Africa, which come within the activities of the Arab Iron and Steel Union, and despite the declines taking place in a number of these markets, which present a greater balance of the confidence in the possibility of overcoming this crisis and draw a prospect of hope in an environment where the confidence was shaken up in general.
What about 2009, and what are the reflections of the financial and economic crisis on the markets of this industry in the Arab region compared to what is taking place in a number of regions in the world?
How will be the demand situations and the movement of the world trade in imports as well as in exports? Will there be a new map for the world steel markets? To what extent will the current prices of the steel products affect the rush of investments and directing the money surpluses to enter the domain of this industry? What are the growth expectations with regard to the steel products consuming sectors, such as the sectors of construction, pipes industry and engineering industries? How will it be possible for these sectors to determine the future countenances of the development of this industry ?
Based on the expectations which see that 2009 will be the year in which the world production will recover and in which the situation of markets will get improved, we aspire to see convention of this important event under the title «Arab Steel Summit 2009» as a meeting for many Arab and world companies, the experts of the steel industry, the technologies holders and those who are interested in this industry of investors, businessmen and economic activities.
